Goeree-Overflakkee is an island in the province of South Holland proud of its natural beauty and its Dutch Golden Age reaching heritage. The island has 8 Blue Flags and has won a QualityCoast Platinum Award for sustainable tourism as one of only four top destinations worldwide. Goeree-Overflakkee promotes a sustainable way of living among its residents, and provides them with the possibility of a sustainability loan. 

Goeree-Overflakkee also has a solid sustainability ambition to be completely energy-neutral in 2020 by way of energy saving and sustainable power generation. As a living lab for innovations in sustainability, Goeree-Overflakkee wants to share its knowledge with the world. The Energetic region initiative started here and is already widely spread. The new hydrogen pact initiative commits 28 major international stakeholders to make Goeree-Overflakkee the field lab for the use of hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. Goeree-Overflakkee has an outstanding reputation in various sustainability areas, and is a sustainable holiday destination. There are various innovative projects: a sustainable hydrogen tank station, a tidal power station, large scale solar parks, wind energy, the first sheer wind installation and sustainable driving.
